What an unexpected week...

This week was spring break for Chris and our 4th Anniversary and we had lots of stuff planned for our little family. We were going to work on the gardens (flower and vegetable), take Conner to Joplin to House of Bounce, and end up in Kansas City with a weekend full of fun stuff. Our plans all changed on Tuesday afternoon when my mom called and said Conner woke up from his nap and was having chest pains and trouble breathing. I came and got them and we raced to the emergency room, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia. We ended up staying two nights at the hospital with Conner hooked to an IV. I never in a million years thought I would have my two-year-old sick in a hospital. It broke my heart making him take medicine and trying to explain why we had to wheel around the IV machine and why we just couldn't go home. I felt like a terrible mother. I know everyone says there was nothing I could do...it was just a "bug" he got, but I still feel like I should have known something more. He only had a cold for less than a week, but I knew his cough was still there and I should have had him checked out. I was planning on taking him in on Monday, but he just acted like he felt perfectly fine Sunday night and all day Monday. I just thought the sickness was just still getting out of him and he was on the road to recovery. Boy was I wrong. So, we are now giving him breathing treatments four times a day and giving him very stong medicine. His chest x-ray is on Monday and hopefully everything will come out fine. In the meantime, I am trying my best to keep him satisfied with staying inside and not going to town. Who do you think will go insane first? Me or Conner?!
In the end, neither Chris or I really cared that we didn't get to go to KC or get to do anything special for our anniversary besides going out to eat in Pittsburg (my mom kept Conner). This whole thing just has reminded us both that we are a family now and will always be just that. We have absolutely no complaints about staying in those old, uncomfortable beds as long as we all have each other. So, even though our week didn't go as we had planned, it turned out to bring us all even closer together.

And then there were (or will be) three boys... and me.

We just back from our doctor's appointment and found out we're having another boy!!! I don't think Chris or I really had a preference with this one...just a healthy baby. And, according to our doctor, that's what we have!! Conner is....excited? In other words, he doesn't get it yet. Key word: yet. I don't know how he will react to sharing a room, a house, mom and dad. It will be interesting. He's worried more about when Grandpa is going to get to combining wheat right now. Here are so pictures from our sonogram... (my scanner made our pictures a little blurry and I don't feel like fixing them right now..sorry!)

Home Alone

Right now I am home alone. Do you know how long it has been since I've been home alone? Chris is off somewhere with one of his friends and Conner went to the Farm Show in KC with my parents. I don't really know if I like it or not, though. I've gotten a lot of things done, but am starting to miss the guys! Good thing it's not going to be any longer than one day or else I would go insane!

Okay, so my brother is going to India in a month on a K-State thing that he's be in for two years. They get to do all sorts of things through this program and I was looking at his itinerary the other day and it says "Meeting with Dalai Lama." Isn't that amazing?! He doesn't think it's that big of a deal, but I couldn't believe it!! THE Dalai Lama! Maybe I'm the only one impressed...oh well.

Soaking Up the Sun

Yesterday was a bea-u-tiful day...before all of the storms came and we had to take cover in the basement. So, Conner and I took full advantage and decided to do a little "golfing" in the yard (we're both learning and I hate to admit that I think he's going to be better than me.), swinging (as usual), and working in the garden. Here are some pictures of our fun afternoon.

(by the way, if you didn't know by now, conner had a little accident and has a black eye, so don't be alarmed. he had his first x-rays and is healing just fine. he's decided that he is going to be okay and i'm sure this is not going to be our last trip to the hospital. )

I don't want to be left out...

Okay, so I must be the most boring person on the internet. Is that a good thing or bad? It seems like EVERYONE is updating their blogs, facebooks, all that good stuff with pictures and stories. What do I have? Nothing. I can't even remember when I took a picture last...(maybe Christmas?). I used to be so good with Conner's pictures...I had a picture of everything...first bath, first bottle, first walking, first i got into the mud while mom wasn't looking. Now what do I have to show? Oh, well. Maybe I can blame it on the pregnancy?

Speaking of pregnancy, I am now 17 weeks along. Yea! I still have a long, long way to go, though. We get to find out next month if we're having a girl or boy. We are super excited and we're planning on taking Conner along for the sonogram. I know, I know, he won't even know what's going on, but I still want him to be there. Is that weird?

Conner's talking so much right now. We've been trying to teach him to play nice and say nice words and all that fun parenting stuff. So, the other day I was telling him not to do something (because he's two and gets into EVERYTHING). He turns around and looks me right in my eyes and says "Be nice, Momma." Think he's heard that somewhere once or twice?

My Brilliant Little Man

Okay, so this isn't going to be a very big blog or even a post with a single picture on it, but I have to tell everyone about our growing Conner. Yesterday he spelled his name!! No, I'm not being one of those moms that hears things that others can't. He actually said c-o-n-n-e-r...twice! He's been saying "c-o-n" or "e-r", but never together. Isn't he brilliant? Just thought I'd share and brag a little.

Coming to you from a bebe-free, toddler bed-loving home...

Yes, we have officially gotten rid of our be-bes!!!! (pacifiers) While my friend, Jill, and her adorable little boy, Brock, were in town, I somehow convinced Conner that we needed to give Brock all of our be-bes because he is a baby and Conner is a big boy. As scared as I was to leave that house without one be-be in hand, we made it and have been as happy as can be ever since!!! (can you believe it?!) We did the same thing with his bottle (which he LOVED!). We gathered all of his bottles up, put them in a bag, and put them in the closet, saying goodbye to them. I don't think it give little kids enough credit...they know when it's time to give things up. I'm the only one who is still thinking about the be-be...not Conner. He's way over it....thank goodness. I'll take it. I'm going to post a picture of Conner and Addison just because blogs are so much more fun with pictures. :) (please ignore conner's poofy hair...he needed a haircut and we just didn't have time right then)
